If you’re an RV enthusiast looking for a charming, off-grid spot to unwind, Elliott Tree Farm in Hillsburgh, Ontario, is a gem. I spent five nights here, and it was an experience full of nature, history, and sweet Canadian charm.
A Family-Owned Farm with Heart
Elliott Tree Farm spans 100 acres and has been in the family for over 40 years. It was started by Fred, an avid RVer who loves exploring Canada and the U.S., and now his son Derek runs the farm. They grow a variety of trees and welcome RVers to stay on their property through Harvest Hosts.
The farm has eight RV spots, each with a picnic table and fire pit — perfect for cozy evenings under the stars. There’s no hydro, but water is available for a small fee of $10 CAD, and firewood can be purchased for $15. Supporting your hosts this way is a wonderful way to give back.
Unique Experiences: Maple Syrup and Tours

One of the highlights of Elliott Tree Farm is Fred’s maple syrup. Unlike many syrup producers, Fred uses real wood in his evaporator, which he says makes a big difference in flavor.
For $29, you can take a tour of the syrup-making process. Not only do you get to see how it’s made, but the tour also includes a pancake snack with ice cream and fresh maple syrup — a real treat! After the tour, you can explore the property with a hike around the farm, enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
Accommodations & Amenities
While most Harvest Hosts are RVers like me, Elliott Tree Farm also offers two cozy cabins for rent:

Settlers Cabin – A historic-style bed and breakfast experience
Log Cabin on the Pond – Perfect for a rustic retreat with beautiful views.

You might also meet Jo, the full-time seasonal who stays on her trailer with electricity, adding a friendly local touch to your visit.

Fun History & Farm Features
The farm even has an interesting piece of history — it used to be a landing strip for planes, which is part of the reason Fred purchased the property. Though it hasn’t been in use for years, it’s a reminder of the farm’s unique story and Fred’s adventurous spirit.
Tips for RVers Visiting Elliott Tree Farm
- Plan for off-grid living: There’s no electricity, so bring your solar setup or generators.
- Support the farm: Buy firewood, fill up water, maple syrup, maple candy floss or consider the maple syrup tour — it’s worth every penny.
- Hike and explore: The trails and farm scenery are peaceful and photogenic.
- Book cabins if interested: The log and settlers cabins offer a different experience if you prefer a cozy indoor stay.
Final Thoughts
My stay at Elliott Tree Farm was the perfect mix of nature, family charm, and unique Canadian traditions. It’s an ideal spot for RVers who want to boondock in comfort, support local hosts, and enjoy a sweet maple syrup experience. If you’re traveling through Southwestern Ontario, I highly recommend adding this farm to your Harvest Host route.
